The RAMAS Foundation
Risk Assessment Management and Audit Systems Known as RAMAS - was developed with Department of Health funding (in United Kingdom) to provide better protection for the public while improving case planning, treatment and management of people posing risk to themselves or others. The RAMAS Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation which brings together Clinical and Forensic Psychologists, Psychometricians, Doctors, Nurses, Social Workers, Police and Probation Officers together with voluntary and business organisations for the purpose of bringing science to society. Through research, Education and Development projects the RAMAS Foundation is a virtual institute with satellite offices in London (UK), Vancouver (Canada) and Cork (Ireland).

Today, our work has extended to partnerships and projects aimed at improving health and emotional well being for all. RAMAS believes that doctors, nurses, clinical psychologists and other healthcare professionals will be able to deliver the highest quality care, avoid medical errors, avert unnecessary distress, suffering or deaths when they are able to obtain accurate, complete and timely information concerning patients.

Similarly, patients/service users will be able to participate more fully in their own care management and maintain well being and realise their full potential when they work in partnership with professionals who are in tune with and up to date with their needs.

Since 1996, the RAMAS team has worked on creating frameworks and tools aimed at improving quality in mental health care while at the same time reducing risk and increasing safety.

Today RAMAS also stands for: Realistic, Achievable, Measurable, Appropriate Strategies for Health and Well being.

This web page describes the work of a group of Mental Health and Forensic Professionals, who are dedicated to improving health and well being for all. The primary focus of this work is evidence based assessment and intervention programs for mental health and emotional well being. The site includes details of RAMAS tools for multidisciplinary use. In addition, details are provided on a number of other programs developed by the RAMAS team. Those include assessment devices of particular relevance to mental health practitioners, risk prevention and reduction programs, software for assessment, client information systems and step by step, self help evidence based programs. In addition a series on peer-reviewed monographs concerning risk and mental health issues are offered as well as a number of other documents. These documents are presented in PDF format.

The RAMAS team offer training in a number of fields related to mental health and well being and to risk assessment and management. (See Training.) The team also offers training and consultancy on stress management and life skills.

The Purpose of the RAMAS

Risk Assessment, Management and Audit Systems (RAMAS) have been in development since 1994 to:

  • ensure that people who pose a risk to themselves or to others do not 'fall through the care net'
  • ensure that a comprehensive health, social and personal needs assessment is carried out for everyone who comes into contact with services
  • ensure that a clear, accurate and complete risk assessment is carried out in order to collate the 'intelligence' through which robust risk management and audit may be made
  • to provide a common language for inter-agency communication and collaboration on risk
  • facilitate an integrated, coordinated, user-friendly and positive approach to public safety and individual care
  • facilitate case and workload management througha standardised method which provides evidence based care, clear, shared goals and good practice .
